LOVING KINDNESS
My experience with the loving kindness exercise started off very difficult. I was very restless and could not relax. I had a difficult time focusing. I also had a difficult time bringing up loving feelings towards myself. After doing the exercise a few more times, I was able to relax more. I still had difficulty bringing in loving kindness to myself though. I think over time, if I continue to do this exercise I think it will be effective. I would recommend this exercise along with the other ones we have done this far to anybody. The background sound of waves is very relaxing in this exercise, and the music in the others are relaxing too. Each exercises quietly guides you into a relaxing meditative state if you allow it.
A mental workout is a daily commitment to practice/study inner peace and human flourishing. Just like physical exercise is important to improve your physical body; mental exercise is important to improve your mental state.
Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear you had a rough start with exercise. I too struggle with bringing loving feelings to myself and I have been really trying to progress in this area. I am also finding that the more I practice the easier and more beneficial the exercise is getting. I would also recommend this exercise to others. Although, I do feel that in order for success, an individual must come to place inside where they are ready to make this life change and be committed to it.
Thank you and all the best,
~Bridgett
Hello and good morning to you Jennifer, I hope that your weekend was filled with loving kindness upon your family, friends, loved ones and overall yourself. I must say that you have such a stress relieving page (nice and soothing due to the art and the colors). You know I can understand why you feel that it started off difficult, because this exercise started off a little different than the ones that I’ve experiences before. My ex girlfriend introduced this kind of music to me a few years ago. After a few times of completing class work while playing these background sounds of waves, birds, and the wind really open my mind to greater things such as grades, a peace of mind, and a greater new me.

Hello Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI too felt that it was difficult for me as well because I was really tired from work but i was restless. But after i completed it again another day it was very beneficial to me. I loved the background sounds of the birds singing, and the ocean waves crashing on the beach...
Awesome Post Jennifer!!!
HI Jennifer, I had a hard time with bringing the loving feelings back to myself. Guilt, undeserving, and selfishness filled my mind. Old thoughts are hard to change. The waves were nice but then the woman's voice would startle me. I have a classical CD with ocean and rain sounds in the background that I used for teaching Yoga and I now use it for studying. It would be good to use to develop your own meditation.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of having a hard time concentrating on nothing. I love the meditations and have listened to a few more I've found online. Trying to meditate is a lot like trying to fall asleep, you have to clear your mind first before you can focus your thoughts on certain things. I'm going to continue to do this probably even after this class is over.
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Hopefully practicing loving kindness has gotten easier now that more time has passed since the original assignment. Restlessness is something I struggle with as well, but if you can find even a few minutes of peace, you will be surprised as to how refreshed you feel afterward. When I first started meditation exercises they would always put me to sleep (not necessarily a bad thing) but as I got more used to them, I have been able to relax without sleeping. Stick with it, it will get easier. :)
